Hand Brush Controller

Designed primarily for Brushing Improvisation – N°2 (2023), this instrument is a wireless controller attached to the brush with a cable tie. It consists of several sliders, buttons, an IMU (gyroscope/accelerometer) sensor, a LiPo battery, and an Adafruit ESP32 Feather V2. The sliders control fine-grained parameters like volume and reverb mix, while the buttons trigger Max preset transitions according to the composition. The gyroscope/accelerometer was designed specifically for a section of the piece where I lift the brush to perform in vacant space. To maintain full physical dexterity, wireless operation was a primary design requirement—enabled by the ESP32 via OSC protocol. A dedicated Wi-Fi router routes traffic between the laptop and the controllers, allowing multiple units to connect simultaneously.
